Dimapur: In a recent development, the Government of Nagaland officially appointed retired Director General of Police, DGP T John Longkumer as the State Election Commissioner. The circular issued by the government outlines that Longkumer, a member of the 1991 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), will hold the position for a term of five years or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes earlier.
Originally a cadre of Chhattisgarh, Longkumer was deputed to Nagaland for a period of three years starting from June 27, 2018, in an inter-state cadre arrangement. His appointment as the Director General of Police in Nagaland was sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on “administrative grounds.”
