New Delhi: IFS Sanjay Verma took the oath of Office and Secrecy as the newest Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in a recent ceremony held at the Central Hall of the UPSC main building. Dr Manoj Soni, the UPSC Chairman, administered the oath to Verma. Verma is a seasoned Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1990 batch.
Verma has served as Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti, and the African Union, Consul General in Dubai, Counsellor (Economic and Commercial) at the Indian Embassy in Beijing, Spokesperson and Counsellor (Press, Information, and Culture) at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, Second Secretary (Press and Political) at the Indian Embassy in Manila, and Economic and Commercial Officer in Hong Kong.
Verma’s assignments within the Ministry of External Affairs involved handling the China Desk, serving as Aide (OSD) to the Spokesperson, Joint Secretary (DG) for Energy Security, and Chief of Protocol.
Verma graduated in Economics from Mumbai University’s Jai Hind College. He holds a Master’s in international studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Verma also received a fellowship in international studies from the University Grants Commission of India and was honoured with the Dorabji Tata Scholarship.
