Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has granted IAS Awanish Kumar Awasthi, from the 1987 batch, an extension as Advisor to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This extension prolongs his advisory role from March 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025, following the conclusion of his previous term on February 29, 2024. This is his second extension that comes with the approval of the Finance Department.
Awasthi, who retired on August 31, 2022, was appointed after the UP governor approved the creation of a temporary ‘advisor’ position for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Having managed departments such as home, confidential, energy, and religious affairs until his retirement, Awasthi has been a pivotal figure in the Uttar Pradesh administration. Notably, he served as the head of the Home Department from August 1, 2019, to August 31, 2022, marking the longest tenure in this role since 1984.
