New Delhi: Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, announced the initiative to issue digital certificates to registered athletes throughout the country. This move aims to establish a transparent record of their participation and accomplishments in various competitions.
The digital certificates will include detailed information about the dates of athletes’ participation in events, serving as official proof of their achievements. Thakur emphasised the importance of placing athletes at the forefront of the evolving sporting landscape, highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating their endeavours.
Thakur initially introduced this plan to streamline processes for athletes and National Sports Federations (NSFs) during last year’s National Sports Day on August 29. The launch of the NSF portal coincided with this announcement, offering a unified platform for handling annual renewals and elections within NSFs.
The Sports Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to prioritising athletes by encouraging NSFs to issue certificates through DigiLocker, an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Thakur emphasised that these digital certificates would revolutionise sports administration and athlete management, ensuring accessibility, security, and authenticity of documents.
“This decision has been taken to ensure the accessibility, security and veracity of documents and promote transparency and efficiency in the sports administration of the NSFs. This will further lead to ease of living for our sportspersons across the nation,” Thakur said.
Thakur has urged NSFs to embrace technological advancements and assured them of full support to facilitate a seamless transition to the new system.
