New Delhi: The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and Qualcomm Technologies Inc. have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership, unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, aims to drive innovation within India’s telecom landscape, aligning with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and Make in India initiatives.
C-DOT, a government-funded telecom research institution, and Qualcomm, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, will collaborate to enhance the development and commercialisation of indigenous telecom products. Qualcomm Technologies will lend its expertise, cutting-edge technology, and intellectual property training to support Indian startups, academic institutions, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The collaboration outlines key objectives, including providing startups, OEMs, and academia access to essential chip technologies and expert consultations. It also aims to expedite the commercialisation of locally developed telecom solutions.
Dr Neeraj Mittal, Chairman of the Digital Communications Commission and Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, highlighted the partnership’s alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision for innovation and self-reliance in the telecom sector. Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership’s potential to catalyse the innovation ecosystem and commercialise new products.
Savi Soin, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm India, emphasised India’s vibrant developer and startup ecosystem, noting the government’s initiatives that have made India an attractive market for tech innovation. Shri Gautam Sheoran, Vice President and General Manager at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., reiterated the commitment to supporting Indian developers, startups, and entrepreneurs through this partnership.
This strategic alliance between C-DOT and Qualcomm Technologies is set to unlock new opportunities for Indian R&D, fostering a robust ecosystem for telecom technology innovation and asserting India’s position as a leader in the global telecom industry.
