Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate India’s first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata tomorrow. The tunnel, part of the Kolkata Metro extension, connects Howrah Maidan and Esplanade, passing under a major river. This development aims to enhance urban mobility and connectivity.
The inauguration event will also include the unveiling of two other metro sections: Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Taratala – Majerhat, as part of the Joka-Esplanade line. The Majerhat Metro Station will be showcased during the event, highlighting innovative approaches to urban mobility.
In addition to Kolkata, Prime Minister Modi will flag off several other transportation projects across the country. These include stretches of the Pune Metro, Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension, Agra Metro, and the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor. Each project aims to alleviate road traffic congestion and provide efficient connectivity for the public, contributing to economic growth and tourism development.
