New Delhi: The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE), has embarked on a technology-driven initiative to empower persons with disabilities (PwDs) through the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements focus on integrating advanced technological solutions to address and improve accessibility and information dissemination for PwDs.
Central to this initiative is the development of a state-of-the-art mobile application platform. This platform is engineered to facilitate the efficient registration and tracking of accessibility issues, alongside providing PwDs with seamless access to a wealth of information including legal decisions, government schemes, and accessible documents.
The first MoU brings together the DEPwD with the Inclusive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Foundation (I-STEM), Dhananjay Sanjogta Foundation (operating as Mission Accessibility), and the National Association for the Blind, Delhi. The collaboration aims to bolster the mobile application with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, enhancing its capability to deliver customised and relevant information directly to Divyangjans across the nation.
In a strategic move to ensure PwDs have the latest information on state and central government schemes, the second MoU with the Vision Divyang Foundation of Rohini, Delhi, intends to deploy AI tools and technological platforms. This partnership is designed to guide PwDs on their eligibility for various government programs, significantly improving their access to essential services.
The third agreement, inked with the National Association for the Blind, Delhi, commits to technological inclusivity by making around 10,000 pages of critical documents accessible to PwDs. This collection contains government schemes, legal guidelines, and reports vital for the informed empowerment of PwDs.
