Noida, May 5 (APAC Media): India has been ranked as the fifth most spammed country in the world, according to the latest global insights released by Truecaller.
The report identifies Indonesia as the most affected country, followed by Chile, Vietnam, and Brazil, underscoring significant regional differences in the nature and origin of unsolicited communications.
The findings are drawn from anonymised and aggregated data collected from Truecaller’s global user base, which exceeds 500 million users. In 2025 alone, the platform reported detecting more than 68 billion spam and fraud calls worldwide, reflecting the continued expansion of unwanted and potentially harmful call activity across markets.
“The scale of what this data shows should concern everyone. Fraud, impersonation, and scams are affecting people’s daily lives in a way we have never seen before. In some countries, most unknown calls are now spam – that is a fundamental breakdown in how communication works. Our mission is to build trust in communication, and in 2026, we are focused on stopping fraud before it reaches people,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller.
India remains among the most impacted countries, recording a spam intensity level of 66 per cent. This places it firmly within the top five globally. The composition of spam calls in India shows a largely commercial pattern. Sales and telemarketing activities account for 36 per cent of all spam calls, making it the largest category.
Financial services follow at 18 per cent, while scam-related calls constitute 12 per cent of total spam activity.
The report highlights notable regional contrasts in spam behaviour. In Indonesia and Mexico, more than 40 per cent of spam calls originate from financial institutions such as banks and lending agencies.
Chile stands out with debt collection services representing 38 per cent of spam activity, the highest concentration of a single category among all surveyed countries.
In Brazil and Nigeria, telecom-related calls dominate the spam landscape. These include promotional offers, service upgrades, and retention campaigns, which often blur the distinction between legitimate outreach and unsolicited communication.
The overall findings point to a growing global challenge as automated systems continue to scale spam operations at unprecedented levels. With rising volumes of unwanted calls, trust in unknown numbers is declining sharply, prompting greater reliance on call identification and blocking technologies across both developed and emerging markets.
