New Delhi, May 05 (APAC Media): The Delhi government has approved a major expansion of the city’s Metro network under the Phase V(B) plan, proposing more than 97 kilometres of new Metro lines and 65 stations across seven corridors.
The project, estimated at Rs 48,204.56 crore, aims to improve connectivity between outer parts of Delhi and key areas in the city centre. The government aims to complete these corridors by 2029.
“This project will play an important role in ensuring balanced and inclusive urban development across Delhi,” Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.
New Metro Corridors to Improve Connectivity
The proposed Metro expansion is expected to bring several areas, including Najafgarh, Narela, Mithapur, and Khera Kalan, onto the Metro network for the first time. The new routes will include a mix of elevated and underground corridors.
One of the key routes under the project is the Dhansa Bus Stand–Nangloi corridor, which will span nearly 12 km with nine elevated stations.
Another major corridor planned between Central Secretariat and Kishangarh will largely run underground and cover almost 16 km. The route is expected to connect areas such as New Moti Bagh, RK Puram, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, with interchange facilities at major stations.
Focus on Outer Delhi and Emerging Areas
The Samaypur Badli-Narela extension will add nearly 13 km to the existing network. The corridor will connect localities including Siraspur, Alipur, and Narela, helping improve Metro access in North Delhi.
The Kirti Nagar-Palam corridor, spanning around 10 km, will pass through areas such as Mayapuri, Janakpuri and Sagarpur. Interchange stations are planned at Mayapuri and Palam to improve travel convenience.
Expansion Aimed at Reducing Travel Time
“The Metro expansion will strengthen Delhi’s public transport infrastructure and improve connectivity in rapidly growing residential and commercial areas. Once completed, Phase V(B) will significantly expand the reach of the Metro network and further reinforce its role as a primary mode of transport for daily commuters,” the CM added.
Together, the projects are expected to improve last-mile connectivity and reduce travel time for commuters across the national capital.
