New Delhi: Ashwani Kumar, an IAS officer from the 1992 batch of AGMUT cadre, was appointed Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Kumar currently holds the positions of Principal Secretary (Home) and Divisional Commissioner for Delhi.
Kumar served as the Special Officer during the MCD integration election process. In 2022, Gyanesh Bharti—former Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner —was named the Commissioner of the unified MCD. He is an Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory cadre IAS officer from the 1992 batch.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner Ashwani Kumar joined the Delhi government after the city’s municipal elections, first as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department and then, in October 2022, as the Principal Secretary (Home). Throughout his career in Delhi, Kumar has held several prominent government positions.
