Mumbai: Sujata Saunik, a senior IAS officer, became the first female Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. IAS graduate from 1987 batch, Sujata has made history as she is the first ever female chief secretary.
After Chief Secretary Nitin Kareer retired, the MahaYuti government selected Saunik for the role. Her term will end in June of the following year, after which she will retire. Saunik was the State’s Home Department’s Additional Chief Secretary prior to being promoted to Chief Secretary. She has served as the General Administration Department’s Additional Chief Secretary as well as in other areas like public health.
The authority was transferred at a ceremony held at the State Secretariat in south Mumbai, Mantralaya.
