New Delhi: According to a press release from Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu has announced several new governor appointments and reshuffles.
The president has named former Union minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar as the next governor of Jharkhand, succeeding CP Radhakrishnan, who will become the new governor of Maharashtra, in a major rearrangement and appointment of governors. Later in the year, assembly elections are planned for Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Haryana.
The president also named Lakshman Prasad Acharya the governor of Assam with the additional responsibility of Manipur, and Gulab Chand Kataria the governor of Punjab, succeeding Banwarilal Purohit, who had resigned earlier this year citing personal reasons, according to a press release.
Former Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma will become Telangana’s new governor, according to a Rashtrapati Bhavan announcement.
Former IAS officer K Kailashnathan has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, a senior BJP leader from Maharashtra, has been appointed as Rajasthan’s governor, following Kalraj Mishra.
Former Assam congressman Ramen Deka and former Lok Sabha MP from Mysore in Karnataka, CH Vijayashankar, have been named governors of Chhattisgarh and Meghalaya, respectively, according to the statement.
