Mumbai: The Union Cabinet has approved the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) in Mumbai. The move is part of the government’s efforts to make India a global hub for AVGC and create a talent pool in India to cater to India as well as the global entertainment industry. The centre aims to transform the AVGC sector and foster innovation in immersive technologies.
The key objectives of NCoE are as follows:

to create a multiplier effect in the entertainment industry.

to foster education, skilling, development, and innovation in the entertainment industry.

The centre is modelled after institutions like IITs and IIMs and is expected to generate 5,00,000 jobs. It will provide a hands-on learning experience to students who will gain practical experience through industry-driven courses. The Union Cabinet’s approval of the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for AVGC is an important step in strengthening India’s media and entertainment industry. This initiative is expected to boost the economy while creating new job opportunities in the rapidly growing AVGC sector.
