New Delhi: Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh officially took charge as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force today, replacing Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari. Singh, who had been serving as the Vice Chief of Air Staff, was appointed to the top position earlier this month by the government.
Singh, commissioned into the Air Force in 1984 as a fighter pilot, brings nearly 40 years of experience. Over the years, he’s held key roles, including commanding a fighter squadron and a major air base. With over 5,000 hours of flight experience, he’s also a qualified test pilot.
His career highlights include leading the MiG-29 upgrade project in Moscow and overseeing the testing of India’s Tejas fighter jets. Singh has also served as Air Defence Commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Before becoming Vice Chief, he led Central Air Command.
As he steps into his new role, Singh will be responsible for steering the Air Force through its ongoing modernization efforts and strengthening the country’s air defense capabilities.
