Mumbai:Â The government of Maharashtra has announced hi-tech mega projects in the fields of semiconductors and electric vehicle manufacturing. The projects entail a cumulative investment of Rs.1.17 lakh crore, potentially creating 29,000 jobs in Marathwada, Vidarbha, Pune, and Panvel near Mumbai. In addition, these projects will aid in developing a strong local supply chain, and give a major boost to technical innovation, research, and development.
The projects’ details including location and investment are as follows:
- Israel-based company Tower Semiconductor and Adani Group will jointly launch a mega semiconductor manufacturing unit at Panvel with an investment of Rs 58,763 crore in the first phase and Rs 25,184 in the second phase, bringing the total investment to Rs 83,947 crore. The project will aim to generate employment for 15,000 individuals.
- Skoda Auto Volkswagen, India will establish an electric vehicle manufacturing project in Pune with an investment of Rs 12,000 crore that would provide jobs to 1,000 people.
- Toyota Kirloskar Motor will also introduce a mega electric vehicle manufacturing project at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with an investment of Rs 21,273 crore. In addition to generating 12,000 jobs, it will also benefit the MSME sector in Marathwada of which Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is a part.
Apart from these projects, Raymond Luxury Cottons, under the textile policy will set up a mega project at Amravati for manufacturing products through spinning, yarn dyeing, weaving cotton, jute, and mesta. This project will be launched at Nandgaon Peth MIDC with an investment of Rs 188 crore and is expected to employ 500 individuals.
