Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has sanctioned the establishment of the country’s first fintech self-regulatory organization (SRO), granting it the authority to oversee and enforce compliance across the rapidly expanding fintech sector. This SRO will play a critical role in regulating the industry by setting standards, ensuring transparency, and protecting consumer interests.
Armed with RBI’s approval, the SRO is poised to intensify its enforcement efforts, focusing on issues such as ethical business practices and the adherence to regulatory norms by fintech companies. The RBI’s endorsement marks a pivotal development in the governance of India’s fintech landscape, providing the self-regulator with the necessary tools to hold the industry accountable and promote a more secure and trustworthy ecosystem.
The bank said that the move is expected to bolster the credibility of the fintech sector, fostering greater confidence among consumers and investors as the industry continues to grow.
