Mumbai: HSBC has appointed Pam Kaur as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the first woman to hold the position in the bank’s 160-year history. Kaur, who has been with HSBC since 2013, takes over from Georges Elhedery, the bank’s CEO.
Kaur, 60, previously led HSBC’s risk and compliance efforts. She has held senior roles at major banks like Deutsche Bank and Citigroup, bringing extensive experience in finance and risk management.
Alongside Kaur’s appointment, HSBC plans a major restructuring in January 2025. The bank will organize its operations into four units, consolidating its banking business outside of the UK and Hong Kong. This is part of HSBC’s ongoing strategy to focus more on Asian growth while scaling back in Western markets.
Kaur holds an MBA in Finance and a BCom (Hons) from Panjab University, India, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
