Mumbai: Maha Mumbai Metro has introduced a WhatsApp-based ticketing option on Metro Lines 2A and 7, making it easier for commuters to get tickets on the go. By sending a ‘Hi’ to the WhatsApp number 86526 35500 or scanning a QR code at stations, passengers can quickly buy tickets without the need for paper.
This new service is designed to cut down on paper usage and simplify the process for commuters. It allows users to generate up to six QR tickets in one go, which is handy for group travel. Most transactions are free of additional charges if paid via UPI, though card payments will include a small fee.
With nearly 62% of daily commuters still using paper tickets, this digital option could help shift more people to cashless and paperless travel. Sanjay Mukherjee, chairman of Maha Mumbai Metro, mentioned that they’re seeing steady growth in ridership and hope this move will make commuting smoother and more eco-friendly.
The launch, which coincides with the Navratri festival, reflects MMMOCL’s ongoing efforts to align with commuter preferences and promote sustainability.
