Kharagpur: IIT Kharagpur will soon introduce a postgraduate MD (Doctor of Medicine) program.
This marks IIT Kharagpur’s first formal step into medical education. The institute will apply for approval to the National Medical Council (NMC) once the application portal opens.
The MD program is likely to have 20 seats. The medical college will be named after Dr B C Roy and will.be housed within the IIT Kharagpur campus.
The practical training for MD students will be conducted at the newly constructed Syama Prasad Mookerjee Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Balarampur outside the IIT campus.
However, the earlier plan to launch an MBBS course has been shelved for now due to inadequate infrastructure.
