Noida, Sep 25 (APAC Media): Indian equity benchmarks BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty recovered on Friday after suffering their biggest single-day decline in recent trading sessions, with gains in select heavyweight stocks and easing crude oil prices offering some support to investor sentiment.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 258.61 points, or 0.35 per cent, at 73,839.15 around 3 pm, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 54.20 points, or 0.24 per cent, to 23,123.85.
The Sensex had touched an intraday high of 73,906.96, while the Nifty moved above the 23,100 level during the session.
The recovery followed a sharp sell-off on Thursday, when the Sensex plunged 1,247.71 points and the Nifty declined 1.64 per cent to close at 23,063.10. Investors remained cautious amid global uncertainties and elevated volatility.
Market participants were also tracking movements in crude oil prices and developments related to the US-Iran conflict. Brent crude prices eased to around $105-$106 a barrel, providing some relief to oil-importing economies such as India.
Asian markets traded mixed, while global investors continued to monitor US bond yields. The 10-year US Treasury yield remained elevated, keeping risk appetite under pressure.
On the domestic front, sectoral performance was mixed. The Nifty Realty index was among the stronger performers, while information technology stocks faced selling pressure.
In the broader market, the Nifty MidCap 100 and Nifty SmallCap 100 indices traded with modest gains.
Among Sensex constituents, Axis Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Asian Paints were among the leading gainers during afternoon trading.
Several stocks, however, came under pressure. Reliance Industries, PB Fintech, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Maruti Suzuki India touched their respective 52-week lows during the session.
Analysts said investors were likely to remain focused on global developments, crude oil prices, currency movements, foreign fund flows and US interest-rate expectations for further market direction.
The domestic benchmarks were thus headed for a cautious recovery after Thursday’s steep losses, with investors balancing bargain buying against continuing concerns over global geopolitical and macroeconomic risks.
