New Delhi: The Ministry of Heavy Industries held a meeting in New Delhi to discuss the allocation of its ₹500 crore subsidy for e-trucks under the PM E-drive scheme. The focus was on deciding per-vehicle subsidies and setting targets for rolling out e-trucks over the next two years.
Kamran Rizvi, the ministry’s secretary, highlighted the need for local manufacturing to reduce dependence on imports, stressing that India should not just be an “assembly shop” for parts from other countries. He explained that the ministry is working on a phased manufacturing plan (PMP) to boost domestic production, based on feedback from industry players. Rizvi acknowledged concerns about the tight localization timelines but assured that the program would set practical targets after consulting with manufacturers.
The ₹500 crore for e-trucks is part of a larger ₹10,900 crore push under the PM E-drive scheme, which aims to increase the adoption of electric vehicles like buses, ambulances, and two-wheelers as India targets 30% EV use by 2030.
