Seamless Connectivity for All
The concept of a WiFi roaming village follows BSNL’s recent rollout of a seamless WiFi roaming service for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) customers. Introduced alongside the launch of its new logo and nationwide services in late October, this service allows BSNL users to access high-speed internet at any BSNL hotspot across the country without incurring additional data charges.
During the launch of new facilities, a BSNL official in New Delhi explained the simplicity of the process: “Users register on a dedicated portal, create a username and password, and log in at any BSNL access point, including rural areas, highways, and urban hotspots.” This ensures that rural customers can leverage high-speed internet wherever BSNL WiFi is available, enhancing the usability of their FTTH connections.
Intelligent Villages and Rural Innovation
Mudagere is part of BSNL’s broader vision to develop Intelligent Villages, leveraging 5G and other advanced technologies. The initiative aligns with a government proposal titled “From Connectivity Gaps to Smart Solutions: Designing 5G Networks for Rural Innovation.” This program aims to address critical pillars of rural development, including agriculture, education, healthcare, governance, and sustainability.
Key components of the Intelligent Village initiative include:
- Network Development: Installing 5G infrastructure like gNodeBs and Fixed Wireless Access (FWAs) to ensure connectivity at schools, hospitals, and Panchayat offices.
- WiFi Roaming: Utilizing FWAs as WiFi hotspots for seamless internet access within villages.
- Smart Use Cases: Deploying technologies such as IoT devices, health ATMs, AR/VR systems, and environmental sensors to enhance agriculture, healthcare, education, and governance.
- Unified E-Village Applications: A centralized AI-based platform for resource management and governance.
- Smart Agriculture and Health: Integrating soil sensors, crop monitoring tools, and health pods to modernize essential services.
- Smart Education: Utilizing interactive whiteboards and AR/VR labs for personalized and vocational learning experiences.
A Model for Rural Transformation
The WiFi roaming village in Mudagere represents a pivotal moment in India’s journey toward bridging the rural-urban digital divide. By bringing cutting-edge connectivity and intelligent solutions to underserved areas, BSNL is not just building networks but also nurturing aspirations and opportunities.
This initiative reaffirms BSNL’s commitment to the Digital India mission, positioning Mudagere as a model village for technological and social transformation.
