Pune: In a significant push towards sustainable mobility, Mahindra has announced the launch of its new electric SUV manufacturing and battery assembly plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. Dedicated to producing the company’s Electric Origin SUVs, the facility underscores Mahindra’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Spanning 2.83 km² as part of Mahindra’s expansive Chakan manufacturing hub, the new facility is water-positive and operates entirely on renewable energy, setting a benchmark for sustainable manufacturing. The project is backed by a ₹4,500 crore investment allocated from the company’s FY22–FY27 investment cycle.
The plant integrates Industry 4.0 technologies, featuring over 1,000 robots, AI-driven systems, and IoT-based monitoring for enhanced precision and efficiency. Its advanced infrastructure includes a fully automated press shop, a robotic paint shop, and an AI-integrated body shop, ensuring world-class production standards. The battery assembly unit is equally sophisticated, utilizing compact, automated production lines with patented processes to produce high-performance batteries. Advanced testing systems are being used to simulate real-world conditions, ensuring the batteries meet stringent safety and durability standards.
This initiative aligns with Mahindra’s “Make in India for the World” vision, contributing to India’s green mobility goals while showcasing the company’s technological prowess. By leveraging advanced manufacturing practices, Mahindra aims to drive the adoption of innovative and sustainable mobility solutions globally.
