Chandigarh: The Haryana government has appointed 1990-batch IAS officer Anurag Rastogi as the state’s new Chief Secretary. His appointment was officially confirmed following the elevation of outgoing Chief Secretary IAS Vivek Joshi (1989 batch) to the position of Election Commissioner.
Prior to this appointment, Rastogi served as the Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner in the Revenue & Disaster Management & Consolidation Department. He also held the position of Additional Chief Secretary for the Finance and Planning Department, playing a crucial role in managing the state’s financial affairs. In his new role, he will continue to oversee the finance and planning departments.
Rastogi, who hails from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, began his administrative career as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Narnaul on August 17, 1992. He later held key positions, including Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panipat and Hisar, and served as Director and Principal Secretary in various government departments. He was promoted to Additional Chief Secretary in 2021.
His appointment comes just three months after Vivek Joshi assumed office as Haryana’s Chief Secretary on November 1, 2024, following the retirement of TVSN Prasad. Joshi, who was repatriated to Haryana by the central government, had a brief tenure as the Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) before being appointed as an election commissioner.
This administrative reshuffle marks a significant transition in Haryana’s governance. With Rastogi at the helm, the state is expected to continue its focus on administrative reforms and strategic governance, particularly in finance, planning, and human resources. His vast experience is anticipated to bring stability and efficiency to the state’s administration.
