Itanagar: The Kebang Sole village under the Kebang circle of Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh has become a poster for sustainable waste management practices.
An open dumping site plagued by litter and cattle rummaging for food has been converted into a sustainable vermicompost unit. The villagers have adopted a waste segregation and waste-to-wealth approach, leading to a cleaner and more sustainable future for Arunachal Pradesh.
The Kebang Sole village was among 12 villages selected under Siang district’s “Swachata Hi Seva” initiative into “Clean Model Villages”. The Block Mission Management Unit, Pangin unit and the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission collaborated under the leadership of Circle Officer Niyang Pertin.
Subsequently, the vermicompost unit was handed over to a local SHG of the village who will generate revenues through the sale of vermicompost.
Circle Officer Niyang Pertin earlier selected 6 SHGs as a pilot project in Pangin to train them on vermicompost kits, raw materials, earthworms and tools.
