New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed multiple contracts to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.
The agreements, worth around Rs 2,500 crore, include the procurement of the Nag Missile System (NAMIS) Tracked version and nearly 5,000 Light Vehicles.
Defence Contracts Signed
The MoD signed a contract with Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited (AVNL) for the tracked version of the Nag Missile System (NAMIS), an anti-tank weapon platform developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
This system is designed to improve the Indian Army’s ability to counter enemy tanks in diverse combat scenarios.
Additionally, Force Motors Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd have been awarded contracts to supply around 5,000 Light Vehicles. These vehicles will enhance the mobility of the Armed Forces across different terrains and operational conditions.
Strengthening Domestic Defence Manufacturing
The procurement aligns with India’s focus on self-reliance in defence manufacturing, as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The involvement of domestic manufacturers in these contracts highlights the push to reduce dependence on foreign defence imports.
While the delivery timelines for the systems and vehicles have not been disclosed, these procurements are expected to play a crucial role in modernizing the Indian military’s fleet.
