Kolkata: West Bengal has recently topped the country in terms of digital transactions in the Department of Land & Land Reforms.
In 2024 throughout the year the department conducted 25 crore 27 lakh digital transactions involving different services like land mutation, application to change the nature of the land and land tax payment among others
According to the Central report on e-Taal portal, a total of 39 crore 32 lakh digital transactions were conducted throughout Bengal in 2024.
At 25.27 crore, digital transactions in land reforms only has surpassed those in application for certificates, commercial tax, health and property registration among others.
West Bengal has left behind states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Odisha in terms of digital transactions in land reforms.
According to the administrative authority, this has led to increase in renewal of land lease and consequently in tax collection.
From April 16 to December 25, 2024, the land tax collection in the state reached Rs 700 crore and the number is expected to reach Rs 1300 crore by April 15, 2025. This will be up from about Rs 1000 crore in 2023-24.
The primary increase had come from non-agricultural land tax, long term and short term lease on government lands, mine and mineral tax as well as brick kiln among others.
