Raipur: The International Patients’ Union (IPU) and IIM Raipur have introduced a fellowship focused on patient-centric healthcare policies.
The initiative aims to bridge gaps in patient care through direct engagement and policy recommendations.
Fellowship to Address Patient Care Gaps
The three-month Patient-Centric IPU Fellowship, launched in collaboration with IIM Raipur’s Centre for Health, Innovation, Policy and Digital Health, is designed to equip healthcare professionals and students with insights into patient experiences.
Participants will track patients’ journeys, identify challenges, and develop solutions to improve healthcare policies.
The fellowship is open to students pursuing healthcare-related disciplines such as MHA, MPH, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Physiotherapy along with practicing doctors, healthcare professionals, and patient advocates.
Policy Insights Through Patient Engagement
Fellows will work directly with patients and healthcare communities to analyze the impact of government policies on healthcare delivery. Their findings will be compiled into policy briefs, which IIM Raipur will publish to contribute to ongoing healthcare policy discussions. These reports will also be submitted to NITI Aayog for consideration in future reforms.
The fellowship is structured to accommodate working professionals and students worldwide, offering a remote participation option. The selection process involves an online application, screening, virtual interviews, and final selection. Results will be announced at the International Patients’ Union Conference on 7 April 2025, in New Delhi.
Healthcare Policy and Reform Focus
Dr. Rajendra Pratap Gupta, founder of the International Patients’ Union and Chair Emeritus at IIM Raipur, emphasized that the fellowship would provide professionals with a real-world understanding of patient needs and help shape policies based on lived patient experiences.
By focusing on evidence-based insights, the initiative seeks to bring patient perspectives into the healthcare policy-making process, potentially influencing reforms at the national level.
