Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated ‘Dev Hast,’ the first robotic surgical system to be installed in any government health institution in central India, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur.
Calling the development a milestone in healthcare for the state, the Chief Minister said robotic surgery would transform medical treatment by enabling advanced, precise, and high-quality care. In a symbolic gesture, he personally performed the first dry lab dissection using the robotic system.
Alongside the inauguration, Sai announced the establishment of a fully equipped ‘Parijan Niwas’ at AIIMS Raipur. The facility will provide affordable accommodation for relatives of patients, not only from Chhattisgarh but also from neighboring states.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of affordable healthcare, pointing to the rising burden of lifestyle-related diseases. He noted that the Ayushman Bharat scheme offers free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh and added that under the Vay Vandana Yojana, this benefit now extends to all patients above 70 years of age.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, present on the occasion, said the introduction of robotic surgery marks a significant step in strengthening healthcare capacity. He announced that Mekahara Hospital in Raipur would also soon be equipped with robotic surgery facilities.
