New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stone for the Capital’s first multilevel electric bus depot, a project aimed at transforming the city’s public transport into a cleaner and more efficient system.
The facility, to be built in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar at an estimated cost of Rs 420 crore, is slated for completion within 24 months.
The initiative is part of the ongoing Sewa Pakhwada 2025 celebrations marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh and Education Minister Ashish Sood joined Gupta at the ceremony.
Gupta described the project as a milestone in the Delhi Transport Corporation’s history, promising improved working conditions for staff and world-class amenities for passengers.
Designed to accommodate 384 electric buses, the depot will feature 81 high-speed charging stations capable of fully powering a bus in about 40 minutes. It will also include 2 lakh square feet of retail and commercial space to ensure financial self-sufficiency, 324 car parking slots, and 104 two-wheeler bays.
Plans call for 26,257 square feet dedicated to DTC offices and dormitories, along with a modern commercial hub. The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) has submitted its proposal and will execute the project.
Gupta said the depot underscores Delhi’s commitment to sustainable mobility and represents “the foundation of a greener, more efficient Delhi.”
