Mumbai: The Maharashtra Transport Department has announced a convenient option for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for vehicle owners providing them relief.
Under the initiative, vehicle owners living in the same housing society or building can get their HSRP fitted at their doorstep, without paying extra fitting charges.
Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar has directed agencies to provide doorstep HSRP installation if more than 25 vehicle owners from one society or building register for the service online. The decision has been taken to reduce crowding at fitting centres.
Before this option was introduced, vehicle owners had to visit fitting centres and pay additional fitting charges for doorstep service. The current fitting charge is Rs 125 for two-wheelers and Rs 250 for four-wheelers.
However, no fitting charges will be levied for bulk installations in societies or buildings with more than 25 bookings. The move comes as the state government has made HSRP mandatory for vehicles registered before 2019. The deadline for installation is 30 April 2025.
For this purpose, the Transport Department has divided the state’s regional and sub-regional transport offices into three zones, each with separate agencies appointed for HSRP installation.
As of now, more than 18 lakh vehicle owners have already installed HSRPs. On average, around 10,000 vehicles are being registered daily for the service, according to regional transport officials.
