Kolkata: The West Bengal Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education has set up 300 smart classes and 100 digital libraries in madrasas across the state.
With a total expenditure of Rs 21 crore, the project upgraded 76 madrasa science labs throughout West Bengal, enhancing both infrastructure and educational standards.
As per Abid Hossain, the Director of State Madrasa Education, there were 300 smart classes set up in madrasas between 2017 and 2019. With the addition of another 300 smart classes, West Bengal now has 600 smart classes in madrasas.
These new additions are in sync with the actions planned in the State Budget in February this year when there were plans to modernize madrasa education, leveraging smart classrooms, e-books, improved computer labs, virtual whiteboards, projectors and other audio-visual media.
The smart classrooms concept has become very popular among madrasa students during COVID-19. Teachers, too, advocate faster and better learning using smart technologies and different audio-visual tools.
