New Delhi: The government informed Parliament that more than 1,150 km of the 1,386 km-long Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been completed, with 756 km now operational.
In a reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that as of February 2025, 1,156 km of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway had been constructed across various states.
“Out of this, 756 km has been operationalised,” the minister added.
The minister acknowledged initial delays in the project due to slow progress by contractors, force majeure issues, and challenges related to land acquisition. However, he emphasized that the government is taking the necessary measures to complete the remaining sections on time.
The ambitious expressway project, designed to reduce travel time between Delhi and Mumbai significantly, has faced setbacks in some areas.
Previous reports highlighted delays across five construction packages covering 140 km between Surat and the Gujarat-Maharashtra border, leading to an extension of the project timeline.
While the government had earlier set a deadline of October 2025 for full completion, the latest updates suggest that certain sections may take longer.
The Vadodara-Surat stretch in Gujarat is divided into five construction packages, with about 50 percent of work completed on the final 25 km segment.
Similarly, progress on the Surat-Gujarat-Maharashtra border stretch has been uneven, with only one package showing substantial development.
