New Delhi: Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON) has secured a contract worth Rs 458.14 crore from North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) for civil construction works in the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
In a regulatory filing on 2 May, the public sector railway company, IRCON, confirmed it had received the Letter of Acceptance from NEEPCO. The scope of work includes critical infrastructure components of the hydro project under Package I, such as the construction of Headworks, Head Race Channel, Head Race Pipe, Intake structures, Headrace Tunnel, Surge Shaft, Pressure Shaft, Valve House, Powerhouse and other associated civil infrastructure.
Strategic Push in Northeast
It is understood that the project is to be executed within 45 months and is classified as a domestic contract.
IRCON has clarified that the agreement does not fall under related party transactions, and no promoter or associated group has any interest in the deal.
The Tato-I Hydro Electric Project is part of a broader push by NEEPCO to enhance renewable energy generation in India’s North-Eastern states. Arunachal Pradesh, with its significant hydro potential, has been identified as a priority area for expanding clean energy infrastructure.
This development is aligned with India’s long-term strategy to scale up hydroelectric capacity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
For IRCON, which primarily operates in railway infrastructure, the deal reflects a growing footprint in the energy and power sector, particularly in hydroelectric projects in strategic regions.
