Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is starting 15 e-vehicle charging stations across the city to support the growing demand.
One such charging station has already been set up in the parking lot of the KMC head office building on S N Banerjee Road. An e-vehicle-based app can agency is running this charging station.
The same agency has won the tender to set up 14 more such charging stations across the city.
It has been decided to set up these charging stations in KMC-owned parking lots on the sides of roads. After Esplanade, another charging station is planned beneath the Gariahat Bridge.
Subsequently, KMC plans charging stations in AJC Bose Road, Garden Reach, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, Raja Dinendra Street, Raja Rammohan Sarani, Bethune Row East, Khudiram Bose Sarani, Sundarimohan Avenue, Surendraranjan Roy Road, Rabindra Sarobar, Sukesh Sarkar Road, Abdul Rasul Avenue and Karbala Trunk Road.
The lighting department of the KMC will be supervising the work when these charging stations are being set up. Once ready, these will be handed over to the parking department of KMC.
The current charging station being set up will soon be ready opposite what used to be the Elite cinema hall.
The fast speed charger is being set up where two cars can be charged simultaneously. The charging will support cars, bikes and autos too.
The charging will be done in an hour, though the charges are yet to be fixed. Trial runs will be held after the charging stations are set up.
It will be checked how much electricity is being spent on charging, and the fees will be determined accordingly.
