New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at enhancing healthcare access for elderly residents, the Delhi government rolled out a ‘Mobile Registration Campaign’ under the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana today. The scheme, an extension of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), offers cashless treatment of up to Rs. 10 lakh per beneficiary for senior citizens aged 70 and above.
70 Vans, 70 Constituencies, 70 Days
Flagged off by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta from the RK Puram Assembly constituency, the campaign will deploy 70 mobile vans, each assigned to one of the city’s 70 Assembly constituencies. These vans will operate for over 70 days, facilitating registration for elderly citizens across Delhi. Delhi Cabinet Minister Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa and local MLA Anil Sharma were also present at the campaign launch.Â
Universal Healthcare for Delhi’s Elderly
Under the Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana, eligible residents will be entitled to Rs. 5 lakh coverage under the central PMJAY scheme, with an additional Rs. 5 lakh provided by the Delhi government, raising the total coverage to Rs. 10 lakh per person annually. The costs will be jointly borne by the central and Delhi governments.
Notably, this benefit is universal for all Delhi residents aged 70 and above, irrespective of income or social status. However, beneficiaries must be native residents of Delhi and possess a valid Aadhaar card.
Access to Over 100 Empanelled Hospitals
With around 100 hospitals across Delhi already empanelled under the scheme, senior citizens will be able to avail cashless treatment for a wide range of ailments. The mobile vans will assist in on-the-spot registration and help elderly citizens overcome technological or logistical challenges.
