Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has launched education infrastructure projects worth Rs 750 crore aimed at transforming educational facilities across the state.
This includes the comprehensive upgradation of 39 government higher secondary schools across various districts in Arunachal Pradesh.
This upgradation costs Rs 300 crore and will be funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme.
Another Rs 322 crore has been allocated for the construction of 156 hostels and residential quarters for teachers. This will ensure better living and learning environments throughout the state.
In addition, 14 modern hostels with a capacity of 120 beds each will be created under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA). This will cost Rs 71.4 crore.
Another Rs 9 crore is earmarked for building 60 bachelor’s barracks in rural schools to support teachers stationed in remote areas.
The Arunachal University in Pasighat (East Siang) has also been designated for infrastructure development. This will cost another Rs 30 crore.
Lastly, Rs 23.64 crore has been allocated for the construction of 394 kitchen shed-cum-store units under the PM Poshan scheme. This will improve nutrition services in schools.
All these projects are spearheaded by the Rural Works Department (RWD) are will be completed in the current financial year.
These projects are part of the state government’s broader push under the Shikshit Arunachal 2029 mission to elevate education standards and accessibility, informed Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
The government also announced that all non-functional schools, particularly those with zero student attendance, will be phased out.
These schools will be replaced with inter-village model schools that consolidate resources and offer better learning outcomes.
