Kolkata: The West Bengal government is planning to construct 25 new fire stations across the state.
This comes after a series of escalating fire incidents across Kolkata and its surrounding areas.
The new fire stations would be established in districts synch as Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Birbhum and Purba Bardhaman.
One proposed station will be strategically located near Nabanna, the state secretariat in Howrah. Other specific locations include Dhaniyakhali in Hooghly, Barjora in Bankura, Narayangarh in Paschim Medinipur and Itahar in Uttar Dinajpur.
The planned expansion of fire infrastructure comes in the wake of the major fire incidents in the last six months, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
These include the Burrabazar Hotel, Khidirpur market, Tireti Bazar, Park Circus, Rajabazar, Anwar Shah Road, Pathuriaghata incidents, among others.
