Kolkata: The West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Pant has issued a notification to set up 850 EV charging stations across all government hospitals, medical colleges and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state.
The West Bengal State Electricity Development Corporation (WBSEDCL) has been appointed as the nodal agency for this project.
The aim is to help doctors, health workers and families of patients to charge their EVS easily.
The first phase of this project involves setting up these 850 EV charging stations.
Out of this, WBSEDCL will set up 184 EV charging stations on lands owned by the Tourism Department and the PWD.
The Chief Secretary Pant has instructed other departments to identify lands for the construction of the remaining charging stations.
The Power Department has coordinated with the Health Department for these EV charging stations.
Subsequently, the Health Department has instructed all medical college hospitals and District Health Officers to identify lands for these EV charging stations.
One charging station in a medical college hospital, district hospitals, super speciality hospitals or a PHC needs 600 sq ft of land.
There needs to be enough road for EVs to enter and leave. The centre should be connected to the main road too.
