Kalimpong: The Kalimpong Tourism Welfare Society, in conjunction with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has launched a new website with all details about tourism in the district.
This www.kalimpongtourism.org website will help tourists find all data about local homestays, hotels and taxis. It will also help them from potential fraud on dubious websites.
The GTA will actively promote and publicise this website. They will focus on the attractions of this hilly district surrounded by Bhutan, China and Sikkim.
Kalimpong boasts of adventure tourism with paragliding in Dello and river rafting on the Teesta near Teesta Bazar. There are a few bird watching centres and tourist spots in Gorubathan, Lava and Lolegaon.
Dalimport in Gorubathan block is coming up as an offbeat destination. Tea, orchid, coffee plantation, as well as honey production, are happening.
The Kalimpong District Tourism Welfare Society will highlight these through the website.
The concept of homestays in West Bengal started in Kalimpong only. Now there are over 1000 homestays in the district.
It was the homestay and hotel owners who joined hands to form this society last year. Now they are promoting each tourist place through this website.
The site also has the name, phone numbers of stays, plus all driver details, so that tourists can verify beforehand.
