Darjeeling: The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has launched a mobile app to track the attendance of primary school teachers falling under its anvil.
Every school teacher has to download the Notecam app and from April onwards need to click their pictures daily when they enter the school and leave.
The photos clicked through the app will be submitted to the sub-inspector of schools in each of the 13 education circles within the GTA purview.
The mobile app Notecam is designed to take photographs that can include data like date, time, location, coordinates and other relevant data. It is available for free on both Android and iOS platforms.
There are currently 778 schools in the GTA jurisdiction with about 2300 teachers. Initially, a biometric system was mooted but it was not feasible budget-wise as some schools had very few teachers.
The biometric system has however been launched at the GTA headquarters in Lal Kothi, Darjeeling and the primary education department at Lewis Jubilee and Shiksha Bhaban in Darjeeling.
Currently, the teachers are undergoing hands-on training on running the mobile app successfully. GTA hopes the successful implementation will present a clear picture of teacher absenteeism in schools.
