Bengaluru: In a major administrative reshuffle, the Karnataka government has appointed senior IAS J. Ravishankar as the new Managing Director (MD) of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).Â
A 2001-batch officer, Ravishankar replaces IAS M. Maheshwar Rao, who was holding the post as an additional charge since April, after taking over as BBMP Chief Commissioner.
Ravishankar brings years of administrative experience to his new role. A dental surgery graduate, he was serving as the Secretary in the Agriculture Department before this appointment.Â
Throughout his career, he has held key roles, including Excise Commissioner and Secretary in various departments, such as Housing, Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics, and Municipal Administration. He has also served as Deputy Commissioner in Raichur, Mandya, Kolar, and Belagavi.
His appointment comes at a critical time for BMRCL as Bengaluru’s Namma Metro prepares for its biggest expansion yet. The much-delayed Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, is now slated to open by August 2025.Â
In his new role, Ravishankar will oversee the development of BMRCL’s upcoming vital infrastructure projects.
