Gurugram: Masters’ Union, a leading business and tech school in India, has introduced a unique compensation model for educators called the AI Royalty Model.
Under this new framework, professors will earn royalties whenever their AI avatars are used to teach students. Instead of just a traditional salary, faculty will now receive a flat fee for every unique learner who studies a subject taught by their digital twin.
In addition, professors will receive a one-time honorarium for licensing their likeness to the school. A rewards system has also been created to recognise the most-streamed AI avatars, similar to how creators are rewarded on platforms like Spotify and YouTube. This model will also be open to visiting faculty and industry professionals who wish to monetise their knowledge through AI.
This initiative supports Masters’ Union’s broader mission to make high-quality business education accessible to all. As part of this vision, the school is launching the Masters’ Union AI Institute (MuAI), a free, global platform where anyone can learn business topics from AI-powered versions of real professors.
MuAI is set to go live in July 2025 and will offer self-paced online courses in areas like business communication, marketing, strategy, technology, and venture capital. These courses will be delivered entirely through AI avatars created from Masters’ Union’s own faculty.
APAC News Analysis:
The AI Royalty Model marks a shift in both education delivery and teacher compensation. By treating faculty as intellectual property (IP) holders, Masters’ Union is aligning educator incentives with reach and impact. This model empowers professors to earn continuously as their knowledge scales through AI.
The launch of MuAI, meanwhile, pushes the boundaries of traditional MOOCs by blending content with interactivity. If successful, it could transform how education is accessed globally, offering a deeply personalised, on-demand learning experience at zero cost.
