New Delhi: The Centre has sanctioned financial support for 23 chip design projects under the Rs 1,000 crore Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, aimed at empowering domestic companies, startups and MSMEs to innovate in the semiconductor space, said the Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada in Lok Sabha.
Launched in December 2021 under the Rs 76,000 crore Semicon India Programme, the DLI Scheme addresses high entry barriers, long development timelines and global competition in chip design by providing financial and infrastructure support.
Beneficiaries receive up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, as well as commercialisation-linked incentives on net sales turnover.
As per the details shared by MoS Prasada:
278 academic institutions and 72 startups have received access to advanced Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools for early-stage semiconductor prototyping.
23 chip design projects have been sanctioned for financial support, focusing on applications such as surveillance cameras, energy meters, networking solutions, and microprocessor IPs.
10 startups have secured venture capital funding to scale up their chip design prototypes.
Six companies have completed prototype tape-outs at various semiconductor foundries.
Additionally, 20 chip designs from 17 academic institutions have already been successfully fabricated at the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali, marking a key milestone for India’s growing design ecosystem.
With a total project outlay of Rs 803.08 crore approved under the DLI Scheme, projects are progressing at various stages of development, with funding linked to milestone achievements.
