Bhubaneswar: The Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd (IRFC) has finalised a Rs 2,539-crore refinancing arrangement for Angul Sukinda Railway Limited (ASRL), a special purpose vehicle managing a key freight corridor in Odisha. The agreement was signed on August 11 at IRFC’s New Delhi office, with senior representatives from both organisations present.
ASRL operates a 113.4 km broad gauge railway line connecting Odisha’s mineral-rich belts to major coal, steel, power, and port hubs. Designed to ease congestion on existing rail routes, the line facilitates efficient transportation of coal, iron ore, steel, and other bulk commodities, supporting supply chains in the region’s industrial clusters.
Promoted by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR), the Government of Odisha, and private partners, ASRL’s operations are considered integral to enhancing freight capacity in eastern India.
The IRFC refinancing package introduces competitive lending terms and repayment schedules aligned with ASRL’s revenue cycles. This structure is expected to strengthen the project’s debt management, while enabling investment in capacity expansion and operational upgrades.
By improving the project’s financial sustainability, the refinancing aims to secure uninterrupted freight services and support long-term infrastructure utilisation in the state’s industrial corridors. IRFC, as the dedicated funding arm for railway infrastructure, continues to facilitate capital access for critical rail projects nationwide, with the Angul Sukinda line being a significant freight link for Odisha’s mining and manufacturing sectors.
