New Delhi: Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop transport infrastructure projects in India and overseas. The agreement, announced on September 30, covers railway systems, metro networks, and other large-scale transport initiatives.
The partnership brings together HCC’s expertise in heavy civil construction and KRCL’s experience in railway operations and project execution. Both companies plan to jointly bid for contracts and undertake projects under multiple frameworks, including engineering-procurement-
The scope of collaboration spans across civil works, track laying, tunnelling, electrification, signaling, mechanical and electrical systems, and long-term operations and maintenance. The partners are expected to focus on underground and elevated metro systems, NATM-based tunnelling, major railway bridges, and large EPC contracts.
Industry analysts note that India’s rail and metro sectors are expanding, with several urban transport projects and cross-border railway linkages under consideration. The tie-up is seen as a strategic move that could help both entities compete more effectively in this evolving landscape. The collaboration also extends to international markets, where Indian firms are increasingly exploring opportunities in infrastructure construction and rail systems integration.
Arjun Dhawan, vice-chairman and managing director of HCC, said the partnership aims to create integrated transport solutions that leverage both firms’ strengths.
The development comes as India accelerates investments in modernising its railway and metro infrastructure, supported by government-backed initiatives and growing demand for urban mobility. By pooling expertise, HCC and KRCL are positioning themselves to play a larger role in these projects domestically and abroad.
