Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has appointed senior IAS Vikas Sheel as the state’s 13th chief secretary. He will succeed incumbent IAS Amitabh Jain, who retires on September 30.Â
Sheel, a 1994-batch officer, is currently on central deputation and serving as an advisor to the Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He has been formally relieved of his role at the ADB, where he was on a three-year term, and is expected to take charge in Raipur shortly.
Sheel began his career in the erstwhile Madhya Pradesh cadre before opting for the Chhattisgarh cadre after the state’s formation in 2000.
Over the years, Sheel has held several key administrative positions, including serving as Collector of Raipur and Bilaspur districts and as Secretary in multiple state departments. Since 2018, he has been on central deputation, where he worked as Additional Secretary in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, and later as Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Jal Jeevan Mission under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
