Adani Group to Invest Rs 630 Billion in Major Energy Projects in Assam

Dispur: Adani Group has announced plans to invest about 630 billion rupees in two major energy projects in Assam. 

The package includes what will become the largest privately built coal-fired power plant in the Northeast. The company said the plant will begin commissioning in phases from December 2030. The move signals a renewed push for private investment in coal-based power after more than a decade of limited activity in new projects.

In August, Adani Power revealed plans to invest about 5 billion dollars in two coal-powered plants. The company aims to scale its total capacity to 42 gigawatts by fiscal year 2032, up from the current 18 gigawatts. 

Alongside coal investments, the group is pushing forward with clean energy. Adani Green Energy plans to spend around 150 billion rupees on two pumped storage projects in Assam with a combined capacity of 2,700 megawatts. This includes 500 megawatts of storage awarded in a recent tender. The company has a current renewable portfolio of 16.7 gigawatts and aims to reach 50 gigawatts by 2030.

Earlier this year, Chairman Gautam Adani had pledged to invest 500 billion rupees in the northeast. The latest announcement strengthens that commitment. Separately, the group plans to invest 1 trillion rupees in Andhra Pradesh over the next decade in sectors ranging from energy to infrastructure.
