New Delhi: The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee to set up a Centre of Excellence on the IIT Roorkee campus.
The move aims to support indigenous research and strengthen India’s push for leadership in next-generation telecom technologies.
Focus on Advanced Communication Technologies
The Centre of Excellence will work on wireless communication, quantum technologies, cybersecurity, and AI-based telecom applications. It will bring together experts from academia and industry to design practical solutions that support India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in telecom innovation. The centre will offer access to advanced labs and infrastructure. Students, researchers, and start-ups will get support to turn ideas into prototypes and create intellectual property.
Key Research Areas
The centre will take up joint research and development in a wide range of emerging fields. The focus areas include 5G and 6G technologies, RF and Sub-THz integrated circuits, advanced sensors, and millimeter wave beamforming antennas. Work will also be done on Vehicle-to-Everything communication, energy-efficient telecom systems, and data-driven wireless communication models. The aim is to build solutions that reduce foreign dependence and boost India’s telecom value chain.
Strengthening Collaboration
The MoU was signed in the presence of IIT Roorkee Director Prof. K.K. Pant, C-DOT CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay, and senior faculty and officials from both sides. The Centre of Excellence was inaugurated soon after the signing. Leaders from both institutions said the initiative will speed up innovation and build skilled talent for the industry.
