Kolkata: The South Traffic Guard office has become the first traffic guard under Kolkata Police to harness solar power.
The office located adjacent to the Exide crossing saw 15 solar panels installed on the terrace.
This will generate 15 kW of electricity, sufficient to power all lights, fans, and essential equipment. However, higher-energy devices will continue to rely on the CESC power supply.
The solar power plant is intended to reduce the city’s carbon footprint and maintain the city’s environmental health.
This initiative is part of Kolkata Police’s commitment to promote environmental sustainability along with public welfare.
The Alipore and Sarsuna police stations were the first police stations in the city to adopt solar energy in 2021. The traffic guard has now adopted it four years later.
